Kray Z Comics and Stories 281: We Don’t Know What The Hell We’re Doing

Cory!! and Joe talk about how cold it is, how they are going to spend their overtime pay and other stuff before they get into the meat of the episode. Wait, meat? Cory!! is a vegetarian, can we do that? Anyone?

OK, the THEME of the episode starts with talking about if the “multicultural heroes” switches are selling or not and is Marvel/DC making a mistake by doing this. They go over sales trends, outside sales and the like to give a full picture of where the comics market is at right now. Boy, that sounds serious. Thank goodness Joe makes a bunch of Dad jokes and weird non-sequitur comments to keep you from thinking we know that we are talking about.

They then get into how the market is moving the last six months, the difference between sales to shops and sales and why Diamond tightening up on Credit can mess with your local shop. They also discuss:

  • Joe gets his dates on Secret Wars all mixed up.
  • One of Joe’s friends talks about why he doesn’t read as much Marvel any more.
  • Borrowing comics and eBooks from the library
  • Why some of the comics super-stars of the 90’s wandered off from comics
  • Hastings has gone under, how did that affect comics distribution?
  • Going over how a comic shop died due to not having credit or information on how Diamond works
  • How Marvel and DC drive the market and when they have a downturn, how does that hurt the market.
  • They discuss Cyncialman

All of this, the usual shenanigans and the proverbial much, much more!

Kray Z Comics and Stories 280: Bloodsuckers!

Joe and Cory!! start by reviewing a preliminary package for a comic called The Resurrection of Dracula that was sent to us by writer Chris Denmead

This starts a discussion of Vampires in comics from the Golden Age to the present. How have they changed over the years? What was the WORST Dracula comic ever? When have vampires worked well and when haven’t they! It’s all about those bloodsuckers…no, not Lawyers, VAMPIRES! They also discuss:

  • How to decide if a comic is monthly, a full graphic novel, etc…
  • What were Joe and Cory!!’s first comics with Vampires in them
  • Why the comics code prohibited vampires.
  • How Dell comics got around the comics code
  • Vampires being destroyed at Marvel. They got better.
  • BESSIE THE HELLCOW!!!
  • Vampirella’s strange origin.
  • CORY!! COMPLETELY FORGOT DC’S “I, VAMPIRE” SERIES BECAUSE HE’S NOT THAT BRIGHT.

All of this, the usual shenanigans and, as always, much, much more!

Kray Z Comics and Stories 279: Graphic Novel or What?

Cory!! interrupts Joe’s afternoon to talk comics which causes him to go on a Dad joke rampage! Joe has read an article about how the term “graphic novels” is outdated and shouldn’t be used any longer. Joe and Cory!! discuss a little about the origin of the term and if the term is still one that should be used with comics. They also discuss how to classify graphic novels and, they also discuss:

  • Joe and Cory!! went to Minnesota’s largest candy store!
  • They discuss obscure sodas and candies that they were able to pick up at the store.
  • They also go to Hot Comics in Jordan MN
  • Why do they talk about the 60’s sit com Room 222? LISTEN TO THE SHOW TO FIND OUT
  • They give ideas on how to stock a small shop for graphic novels
  • Putting comics back on the shelf!
  • The comics wars in the Twin Cities of shops trying to get their books on the shelves first
  • Cory!! goes over the first issues of Thanos, Avengers 1.1, WWE comics and Geek Girl

All of this, freaking and geeking, and the proverbial much, much more.
