Kray Z Comics and Stories 298: Obscurity Beckons

Joe and Cory!! start by talking about the most recent public relations problems companies are having and then they get into Ardian Syaf putting anti-Christian and anti-Jewish symbolism in the background of his art. This leads to a discussion of other comics that have had things in their pages that got them into trouble like Super-Pro, old EC comics, Halle the Hooter’s Girl, and others.

They also review the new X-Men book! Of course, Cory!! screws it all up and thinks X-Men Gold #1 is X-Men Prime, so Joe reviews X-Men Gold and Cory!! reviews X-Men Prime.

But that’s not all! Cory!! and Joe have been trying to discuss obscure comics characters they love for WEEKS now as Marvel or DC have dropped huge news. Even with huge news dropping, they have their discussion about their love of obscure characters as well as their favorite obscure comics…do you know any of them?

They also discuss:

  • One of the dumbest origins in comics
  • The early days of comic dealers messing with distribution to create rare comics
  • A look at the popularity of this here podcast
  • Joe discusses laying pipe.

Wait, what?

All of this, the usual shenanigans and the proverbial much, much more!

Kray Z Comics and Stories 297: Kray-Versity

Marvel decided to set the internet aflame! A Marvel exec said at a sales conference that Marvels’ sales slump is caused by their embrace of diversity and bringing in new characters. Cory!!, Joe and Joe’s pal Turbo decide to dig into this in discussing if diversity is a positive thing, what may be causing the sales slump and the issues Marvel is having over the last year. They also discuss:

  • That there are too many damn comics!
  • Variant Covers. Again.
  • Characters taking over the names of characters that have been put aside
  • Are there still superstar artists?
  • Why aren’t new artists “moving the needle”?
  • What happens when a lot of art styles are the same
  • Why companies push writers instead of artists
  • What artists do they buy no matter the story?
  • Did the rise of Manga kill the idea of the “hot artist”?
  • Did the lack of chain stores hurt comic sales?

All of the this, freaking and geeking and the proverbial much, much more!

Kray Z Comics and Stories 296: Kray Waiting For The Trade

It’s Wrestlemania week, so Cory!! and Joe talk a little about it before they review Geek Girl #4!

They then slide into discussing comics that read better as a collected work rather than individual issues. They discuss the issue with older comics as trades, how new comics are made for being collected in a trade and what works better.  They also discuss:

  • What mini-series were never going to be collected and were
  • What works best as a trade paperback
  • What do Joe and Cory!! look at when they want to “wait for the trade”
  • How did Doctor Octopus and Hammerhead survive being ground zero at a nuclear explosion?
  • What comics do you still buy as a monthly comic?

All of this, the usual shenanigans and the proverbial much, much more!
